Earlier in the summer, Ann Green Communications was presented an award from Region 3 of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The “2018 Excellence in Site Reuse” award was presented to Ann Green Communications by Region 3 Administrator, Cosmo Servidio for our work supporting the Fairmont Coke Works Site Redevelopment Initiative.
The Fairmont Coke Works site is the former Sharon Steel plant in Fairmont, West Virginia. The plant was originally built by the U. S. Department of War in 1919 and played a significant role during both World Wars I and II by providing coke and byproducts to support the war efforts.
Sharon Steel Corporation purchased the site in 1948 and operated the plant from 1948 to 1979 when the plant closed. Today, the property is home to a State Police Detachment.
On behalf of our client, AGC worked cooperatively with the EPA, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, community leaders and a number of area residents over the years to engage the community in the restoration of this site into productive use.
